Douglas County, Colorado, is searching for an enthusiastic individual seeking a paid internship for the Department of Public Works Engineering– Traffic Engineering Services. Position is funded for the summer of 2017. Flexible work schedule and hours are possible to accommodate school schedule.

Douglas County is seeking a highly motivated and talented Civil Engineering student who will assist the Traffic Engineering Team on a variety of traffic engineering studies, data collection, reviews, analysis and minor construction projects.


Examples of Duties


  • Assist Engineers to perform traffic studies and reports
  • Support staff in data collection and review
  • Support staff in signal timing and coordination plan development
  • Support staff review of traffic control plans
  • Support staff with field reviews and site visits at construction projects
  • Assist Engineers with updating of traffic infrastructure inventory and mapping
  • Assist Engineers with citizen concerns and project development.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED and current enrollment in an engineering program leading to a Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated interest in the civil engineering field is desirable.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and be a US Citizen, or permanent resident.
  • Proficiency in using Excel, Word and desired experience with Arc Info and, or AutoCAD.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


Supplemental Information


  • As a temporary position, no benefits are available.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions.  This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.  In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
