Douglas County, Colorado, is searching for four (4) enthusiastic individuals seeking a paid internship for the Department of Public Works Engineering – Engineering Services.? Flexible work schedule and hours are possible to accommodate school schedule.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
If you are a highly talented individual looking for an outstanding opportunity to gain real-world knowledge, skills and experience in working in a professional engineering office, the Douglas County Internship Program may be right for you.

As a temporary position, no benefits are available.

 

Examples of Duties

 

  • Fieldwork assisting with Data Collections of Sidewalks and Handicap Ramps,
  • Inputting New Data associated with project mapping utilizing GIS and GPS technologies.
  • Assist Engineers to perform studies and reports

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other closely related field and have completed at least one academic year of college coursework.

The candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to complete reports and calculations using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must be willing to conduct outdoor site visits, sometimes in adverse weather conditions; perform moderate lifting on a frequent basis, and be able to drive a County passenger vehicle. Receiving an internship offer is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a background and driving record check, and medical and drug screening.

 

 

Supplemental Information

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and be a US citizen or permanent resident.

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions.  This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.  In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
