Job Description

Organization

In 2000, with the initial funding from corporations and several prominent Douglas County business leaders, the Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) was created to help preserve and enrich the quality of life in Douglas County, Colorado. It was initially formed as an affiliate of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. This collaborative relationship provided DCCF the ability to maximize resources and enable donors to generously contribute to the good of the community. In 2017, it separated from the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and now operates as a stand-alone Foundation.

Nearly two decades later, the vision of the Foundation’s early leaders is stronger than ever as DCCF seeks to expand its presence and impact by serving as a county-wide leader and convener, and by distributing funds to a wide range of charitable organizations and initiatives throughout Douglas County.

The Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) serves as a catalyst to:
• Champion awareness of the needs of citizens of Douglas County;
• Inspire generous and thoughtful philanthropic action; and
• Support nonprofit organizations serving the people of Douglas County.

Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for leading and advancing the organization’s vision, strategic initiatives and priorities. The Executive Director will be responsible for meeting the financial and operational goals of DCCF. The Executive Director will serve as the lead fundraiser to build a perpetual endowment for granting and operational dollars to sustain the organization. This job description is subject to change as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors for the effective pursuit and achievement of DCCF’s mission and strategic plan.

Primary Responsibilities

Engage Donors – Fundraising and Communications:
• Serve in a highly visible role in the organization’s fundraising efforts.
• Provide executive level leadership skills and implementation to inspire confidence among long-time financial partners and attract new donors to support the mission and direction of the organization.
• Cultivate partnerships, establish relationships with potential funders, including foundations, corporations, individuals, trade and community leaders.
• Develop speaking opportunities throughout the county with strategically-aligned organizations to build recognition and appreciation of Foundation opportunities.
• Work with the communications committee to deepen and refine communications and marketing materials to create a strong brand, with a clear, compelling message, including developing a regular newsletter.
• Deepen the Foundation’s relationship with, and outreach to, professional wealth advisors, attorneys and CPAs across Douglas County to encourage them to promote DCCF as a trustworthy partner.
• Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities for Foundation growth and impact.
• Provide regular updates and progress reports to current funders on existing grants and funds.
• Manage and coordinate volunteer and professional relationships in support of Foundation events, major/planned gift and fundraising activities.

Provide Community and Organizational Leadership:
• Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.
• Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
• Enhance and support the work of the Board of Directors. Develop and support a strong Board of Directors; serve on committees as appropriate; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction.
• Participate in the recruitment, selection and onboarding of new board members and other volunteers.
• Oversee the Foundation’s annual budget.
• Ensure effective systems are in place to track and record progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
• Promote procedures and practices that will ensure organizational compliance with the highest ethical standards, ensuring operational accountability and adherence to the law.
• Guide DCCF through regularly scheduled mid- and longer-term planning activities, leading the implementation of resulting strategic initiatives.
• Serve as a visible public advocate and provide inspirational leadership for the work of DCCF, while ensuring the highest quality, effectiveness and efficiency of its programs and activities, such as Douglas County Gives.
• Actively engage and energize all stakeholders including, Board of Directors past and present, volunteers, donors, committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
• Collaborate and coordinate with operations director for leadership and oversight of staff and volunteers of the organization.
• Help develop and organize the Foundation’s Community Council, identifying representatives from diverse backgrounds and interests in the County, and facilitate regular meetings.

Qualifications
The Executive Director must be committed to the Douglas County Community Foundation’s mission. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional financial acumen, be a self-starter, have prior relationship management experience, demonstrate superior written and public speaking skills, and have demonstrated successful fundraising ability and grantmaking expertise. He/She must be a highly skilled listener and communicator who will inspire confidence among long-time financial partners and attract new donors to support the mission and direction of Douglas County Community Foundation.

Specific requirements include:
• Deep experience with, and passion for, Douglas County, Colorado.
• Strong demonstrated successful fundraising and grant writing experience with broad-based and ongoing organizational support across a wide range of program areas and constituents.
• A solid knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, financial management and marketing.
• A working understanding of component and restricted funds.
• Proven track record of success in a leadership position overseeing operations of an organization or program while maintaining solid relationships with staff, board, donors and community.
• Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing and future board member relationships.
• Strong marketing and public relations experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
• Experienced and effective public speaker.
• Unwavering commitment to quality programs.
• Action-oriented, and adaptable, with an innovative and collaborative approach to business planning and operations.,
• Ability to work effectively with, and inspire, diverse groups of people.
• Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
• An entrepreneurial spirit, preferably including experience developing and implementing public-private partnerships to achieve community-wide social and economic goals.
• A minimum of 7-10 years of senior level nonprofit organization experience. Direct foundation experience preferred.
• Background and credit checks will be required.
• Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred.

Compensation:
Compensation will be competitive and based upon experience. No healthcare benefits. This role will start at 25 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow to full time.

Currently, there is no physical office space. At the present time, it is anticipated that the Executive Director will work from their home office.
