This is work performing routine and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of County parks, trails and County building grounds. Must be 18 years of age or older and able to perform physical labor for up to 8 hours. Requires a High School diploma or GED. Related experience is preferred. Experience working at Douglas County Parks, Trails, and Building Grounds or at another parks departments at another municipality is necessary to qualify for mid to high end of the pay range. A valid Driver License and copy of a motor vehicle record will be required at the time of interview.
This position is seasonal for up to three months and typically works 40 hours per week; day, evening, weekend and/or holiday hours may be required. The ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening including but not limited to: criminal background (to include fingerprinting through a national data base), motor vehicle record, and drug screen is required. Relocation or housing is not included.
Examples of Duties

Provides general clean up and maintenance of Parks, Trails and Building Grounds
Turf maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, aeration, fertilization and weed management
Performs routine maintenance and operation of equipment
Works closely with staff on irrigation systems performing installation and programming
Preparation of athletic fields including baseball, softball, soccer, football and lacrosse
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not supervise other employees.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR: Work involves maintenance and labor type duties. Consequence of error is minimal as work is closely supervised.
CONTACTS: This position has daily contact with co-workers and the public.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is performed independently although problem areas are discussed with the supervisor prior to taking action.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires some maintenance or construction experience. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid State of Colorado Driver's license is required. A copy of DMV record may be required at time of job offer.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be at least 18 years of age. Some knowledge of facility, park, and equipment maintenance, and safety factors is required. Skill in the use of tools and equipment involved in maintenance and construction. Ability to operate pickup trucks, mowers, and tractors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor for up to 8 hours a day and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Weekend work is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed on County property and subject to adverse weather conditions.
In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
