This is work performing routine and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of County parks, trails and County building grounds.This position is part of the career path in the Park Maintenance field. Must be 18 years of age and be able to perform physical labor for up to 8 hours. Requires a High School diploma/GED and related experience. A Colorado Driver License and a copy of motor vehicle record will be required at the time of interview.

This seasonal position works 40 hours / week for up to 4 months, starting September 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018. The position is posted open until filled, review of applications will begin immediately and continue until suitable candidates are selected.

Examples of Duties

(The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  •  Provides general clean up and maintenance of Parks, Trails and Building Grounds. 
  • Turf maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, aeration, fertilization and weed management. 
  • Performs routine maintenance and operation of equipment. 
  • Works closely with staff on irrigation systems performing installation and programming. 
  • Preparation of athletic fields including baseball, softball, soccer, football and lacrosse.
OTHER DUTIES:Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not supervise other employees.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR: Work involves maintenance and labor type duties.  Consequence of error is minimal as work is closely supervised.
CONTACTS: This position has daily contact with co-workers and the public.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is performed independently although problem areas are discussed with the supervisor prior to acting.


Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires some maintenance or construction experience. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, OR any equivalent combination of experience and training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid State of Colorado Driver's license is required.  A copy of DMV record may be required at time of job offer.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be at least 18 years of age.  Some knowledge of facility, park, and equipment maintenance, and safety factors is required.  Skill in the use of tools and equipment involved in maintenance and construction.  Ability to operate pickup trucks, mowers, and tractors.   

The ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening including but not limited to: drug screen, criminal background and motor vehicle record check is required.

Supplemental Information

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is generally performed outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Mows with self-propelled 135lb or 175lb power mower or cut weeds with 15lb power weed trimmer. 
  • Occasionally shovels dirt and gravel and digs holes for posts using a post hole digger and or 19lb digging bar. 
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50lb materials. Occasionally move and carry up to 80lb materials. 
  • Ability to lift and position with assistance ramps to allow tractor loading and unloading from trailer. 
  • Ability to pick up and removes trash. 
  • Must lift 40 lb. trash bag from ground level to truck bed height. 
  • Occasionally operate 2-3lb hand pruners held overhead. Occasionally operate 15lb chain saw with two hands. 
  • Requires fine motor dexterity to adjust and maintain power equipment. 
  • Frequently must walk over uneven rough terrain either pushing, pulling, or carrying equipment. 
  • Requires agility to maneuver rough terrain. 
  • Requires ability to sit and drive tractor. 
  • Ability kneel on angled surfaces to plant flowers and do other work on the ground. 
  • Ability to perform strenuous labor for up to 8 hours a day. 

In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions.  This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.  In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
