The Information Technology Department at Douglas County, CO is seeking a talented and dynamic Systems Administrator to join our operations team. 

The Information Technology Systems Administrator proactively manages the delivery of services via the Douglas County computing environments in a cost effective and reliable manner.

Classification (level) and compensation are based on qualifications and experience. This position is posted as open until filled, review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is selected.


Examples of Duties


  • Under general supervision, performs basic hardware setup or server/storage provisioning. 
  • Installs and configures the operating system, new releases and upgrades. 
  • Installs and configures third party software and the associated lifecycle upgrades.
  • Provisions/de-provisions users and computing resources.  
  • Plans and executes backup and recovery processes.
  • Utilizes administrative tools to manage configurations, monitor performance and schedule system tasks.  
  • Diagnosis and resolves basic system problems.
  • Participates as part of an on-call hierarchy with other skilled support staff.
OTHER DUTIES:  Participates in research which evaluates and recommends new infrastructure components and operational related technologies that may be used by Douglas County, especially those that demonstrate the potential for economic savings, increased productivity, or improved service.
Performs other duties as assigned.
CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR:  Operation and management of Douglas County computer systems is complex and requires diligence to ensure consistent service to Douglas County users at a reasonable cost.  Consequences of error can be considerable, affecting both services and costs, especially as relates to systems downtime, integrity and protection of Douglas County data, and the implementation and management of technologies used to support Douglas County business applications.
CONTACTS: Work involves frequent and on-going professional contact at all levels, including management, end users, outside vendors, and technical staff.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is sometimes performed independently.  Incumbent must be able to use individual judgment and problem solving skills to accomplish goals and achieve desired results.


Minimum Qualifications


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Some college level courses or training/certification in principle technologies. Typically requires less than 2 years experience in installation and maintenance of computing hardware and software.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Abilities to effectively read, analyze, interpret, and produce complex technical documents, diagrams and manuals are required.  Ability to effectively communicate status information, coordinate technical direction, and resolve technical and personnel conflicts is required.  The ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships is required as is the ability to build effective teams of individuals, managing the different interests of the team members.
REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, apply logic, draw valid conclusions, and devise technical solutions is required.  Must have the ability to interpret and/or create a variety of technical instructions or diagrams.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Physical installation and management of technology components in a data center environment.  Cost estimation, design, analysis, and budgeting are required.
The ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening including but not limited to: reference  checks, criminal background (including fingerprinting through a national database), and drug screen is required.



Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Incumbent may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is generally performed in a typical office environment. Ability to work beyond scheduled hours and respond to after hour's calls in a time critical manner is required.  Some point-to-point travel is required.  A national fingerprint background check and ability to meet ongoing CJIS security standards are required.
In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions.  This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required.  In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
