The Center for Digital Government honored Douglas County for digital initiatives that strengthen communities and improve service delivery.
For its initiatives that deploy technology to enhance services and benefit citizens and taxpayers, while being responsible stewards of public funds, Douglas County received the Digital Counties Survey award, ranking Douglas number one in the nation for the 250,000-499,999-population category.
The survey identifies the best technology practices among U.S. Counties, including ten criteria ranging from initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, encourage collaboration and shared services, boost transparency, and save tax dollars.
“Consistent with the high value our Board assigns to being an open, accountable and participatory government, we are thankful and humbled to learn that our investment in technology to improve transparency, accountability, information access and public engagement is recognized as among the nation’s best,” said Roger Partridge, Chair of the Board of Douglas County Commissioners, on behalf of the full Board.
“Our citizens and taxpayers expect us to leverage best practices in technology, just as they do,” said Lisa Frizell, Douglas County Assessor and a leader of the County’s Open Data Initiative, one of the contributors to the County’s number-one ranking this year. “As we continue our focus on delivering the best technology practices, we know we need to continually innovate,” Frizell said.
“The Center for Digital Government congratulates this year’s winners for their work to reduce costs, encourage citizen engagement, increase efficiencies, and proactively address citizen expectations,” said Todd Sander, Executive Director, Center for Digital Government who conducts the annual Digital Counties Survey in partnership with the National Association of Counties.
The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government.
