General Assembly Extends Recess until April 2

On Monday, the House and Senate of the Colorado General Assembly met very briefly and adjourned until 10:00am Thursday April 2.   9 members of the Colorado House of Representatives were present for the morning proceedings. Since there was not a quorum, House Majority Leader Alec Garnett moved to adjourn until 10am on Thursday, April 2nd invoking Article 5, Section 11 of the Colorado Constitution.  This section of the Constitution states:  A majority of each house shall constitute a quorum, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and compel the attendance of absent members.  With not enough members to make a quorum in the Senate, Senate President Garcia invoked the same section of the Constitution, moving to stand in adjournment.

Legislators continue to await guidance from the Colorado Supreme Court on whether their session can be extended beyond May 6. The court is scheduled to take up oral arguments on Thursday.
